5 things I miss most since becoming a Mum (plus 5 more)

Life has changed since I became a Mum. I knew it would of course and I don't begrudge it (most of the time, anyway) but there are things I do miss from my child-less days as an independent person.

They are the things I took for granted every day. Simple things. I haven't even included my waist, butt and boobs in this list of 10 things I miss the most (although I could certainly add these to a more comprehensive list).

Fit for a garage sale

If only they were marshmallows
During the "nesting" period before my first baby was born, I went and bought a bunch of stuff I thought I'd need.

While I did end up using most of it, there was a small pile of things I never had much use for; some I never even took out of its packaging!

So if you're kitting out your nursery, here are some things you might think twice about buying.

Pram angst

Top 10 Unusual Baby Prams and Buggies
Does it come with airbags?
When you walk into the pram section of a large baby store, it can feel a little like walking onto a car lot.

There are oodles of different models boasting different features.

And if you're a first-time Mum, you have no idea which of these features are really important and which are just cup-holders.

Bringing chubby back

Manna from heaven!
There was a time when I couldn't get my little fella to eat.

It's amazing just how distressing it was. I remember sitting on the floor, rejected spoon of yoghurt in hand, and sobbing.

I remember feeling, surely one of the most basic things I should be able to do as a mother is feed my child?!

My body was built for this, right?

Birth... it doesn't tickle.
I’ve always known I have a pretty low pain threshold. If I get a paper cut the neighbours would hear it happen.

And I'm genuinely befuddled when my athlete husband describes the "good hurt" felt from a nice, hard training session. Good hurt: an oxymoron if ever there was one.

So as the months went by and I got closer to my due date, my fingernails were thoroughly chewed down from my stressing out about The Birth.

Gift ideas for a new baby (aka what the hell do I buy?)

Mmmm... unpasturised goodness.
One of the first preggy/baby things I remember Googling was before I was even expecting. In fact, the thought of having a baby hadn't even planted itself in my mind more firmly than a vague idea that I'd be a Mum one day. Many, many days from this time.

A friend was having a baby and because I was still more concerned with shoes and travelling than I was with nappies and strollers, I had absolutely no idea what to give as a welcome to the world! present for a new baby.

Not just another Mummy blog

I've never been much interested in reading blogs about people's daily lives. Even if they achieve something totally awesome like losing 50kg or running 30 marathons in 30 days. Do I really want to know about every salad they've eaten or blister they've popped? Not really.
