Since I don't read them myself, I've no desire to create what I call a "Mummy blog" where I tell tales about playing with blocks and share photos of my kids' poop. I'm sure there are plenty of day-in-the-life-of Mummy blogs out there if that's what you're interested in.
This blog is motivated by the amount of Googling I've found myself doing since my son was born a little over one year ago. When I've come across something unexpected, I've Googled it. When I found myself in the market for a pram/travel cot/car seat, I Googled it.
I was looking to see if other people had encountered these things or tried these products.
I reckon all new Mums and Mums-to-be take to the internet looking for answers to all sorts of questions, which usually boil down to "is this normal?" or "what can I do about this?" or "Is this any good?".
It occurred to me that by sharing the things I've learned so far, and continue to learn, maybe I can contribute to the Google mash of information that other new Mums are tapping into.
Maybe I could provide some answers/comfort/food for thought to other Mums out there struggling with breastfeeding, fretting about colic or wondering about running prams.
A brain dump of some of the weird and wonderful things I've experienced and/or researched and which I'll share here include:
- Labour and birth - just how scary and painful is it, and what should I wear??
- The aftermath of birth - what the prenatal classes don't really warn you about.
- Awesome gifts to welcome a new baby (hint: they're not all for the bub).
- To circumcise or not to circumcise?
- Breastfeeding - it doesn't tickle.
- Wind pain and colic.
- Cradle cap.
- Teething.
- Dribble rash.
- When baby is sick and has a high temperature - thank goodness for Panadol and Nurofen.
- Tips to get baby to take yukky tasting medicine.
- An allergic reaction to Penicillin!
- De Quervain's tenosynovitis - translation: inflamed tendons in the wrist from lifting bub!
- Running prams.
- Travel prams.
- Travelling with a baby.
- Introducing solids and meal ideas for little ones.
- Crawling, standing and walking.
- First words.
